162. Picture Update: Osushi!

More photos from the wonderful time that I had getting sushi!  You can see that I even at a raw pickled plum!  I have never had something so sour in my life!!  It was interesting though.  Isn’t the heart shaped roll cute?!  And how about the fish served with leaves?!  It was so cool to see all this!!

Also, for those of you who have made the 3-4 am excursion, all the fish was bought at Tsukiji!

161. Picture Update: Osushi!

I went with Kanako and her sister Makiko to get Sushi in Ginza area.  Oh my gosh it was so tasty!  I got the business card of the place to go back with Mom.  It was so neat to watch her cousin make Sushi!!  I will have to post the Youtube link which shows him cutting sushi.  I am so happy to have been invited and had a really, really nice time!

160. Picture Update: Cooking Class

We all when to a former Seishin student’s house to cook in Shinagawa.  That was a lot of fun and I now know how to prepare this food!  It was so tasty!  I can’t wait to make it for my Mom and friends.

I also went to a Koto class, where we played those some Japanese instruments.  That was also a lot of fun, but pictures weren’t really encouraged!

159. Picture Update: Inside Ushiku Daibutsu

You can see the outside from here.  There was also a really cool area inside here that was like a room full of buddah statues that were minature.  Pretty neat!

156. Picture Update: Ushiku Daibutsu 牛久大仏

So, I went to Ushiku to see a standing Buddah.  It’s one of the lesser known (but actually like the third tallest statue in the world), probably because it’s not as old as some of the other Buddah Statues.  Either way, this place was REALLY cool.

So, I got there by bus, and because the bus appeared to be taking way longer than I thought, and all the foreigners (who I assumed were tourists) got off on a certain stop, I decided that’s where I was supposed to get off as well.  This stop was too early though apparently, it was the foreigner registration building stop.  Everyone told me to walk it and that it wasn’t very far.  Many people helped me along the way but it ended up being 2 hours of a walk.

You will see several views of the Buddah that I saw in some of the other picture updates.  I also got to go inside this buddah and took an elevator up and could see out through the windows.  Took some pictures of that, that I hope you will enjoy!!

155. So apparently…

So apparently when I thought that I updated, I did not update.  So here it goes!  I’ve done a lot.  I’ve been to Ushiku, that was the Thursday before last, I flower arranged last Friday, then on Saturday I had a really, really awesome day with my tutor, Kanako, and then on Sunday, I went to Kamakura and to Kita-Kamakura.

Update time!  Hopefully, I’ll get through all of them before my next major trip (probably on Thursday!)

Tomorrow, I am going to Shinjuku.  I am going to the Tokyu Hands and to Uniqlo.  I am going to buy more of the Pajamas that I love so much, and try to find a Norwegian Wood T-Shirt, since they have made one of my favorite books into a movie and are doing a line of t-shirts!  As for Tokyu Hands, I am going to buy macaroni and cheese materials.  No one in Japan knows what Macaroni and Cheese is, and thus, rather than making friends Hamburgers, I’m making them Mac n Cheese, for one thing it’s a lot cheaper, and for another, well…burgers are really here (not quite as good, but they are here).

Speaking of Hamburgers, gross fact that I think I have forgotten to mention (otherwise I will be simply repeating myself, which is okay too).  In Japan, they cut up onions and roll it into the raw meat before they make the burger meat.  It’s not entirely gross, but it is a little strange.  It reminded me of the onion bread that Patrick always orders on the burgers that he buys at the place in San Jose!
